The Story of Unicorn Parts
When the Unicorn met the Spare Parts...
band bio
Born in Whitehorse, Yukon, Unicorn Parts is high energy genre-fluid band with a punk heart and a funk soul. With a strong socially conscious bend, Unicorn Parts performs with raw, honest emotion as they tell stories of heartbreak, injustice, joy, and love. Whether a soulful look at life or a vehement criticism of society, Unicorn Parts will take you on a journey through the heart and leave you energized and elated.
Unicorn Parts’ origin comes from the ubiquitous Whitewater Wednesday Jam stage. Each of the band members have been playing live music on stage at the Whitewater Wednesday Jam for over 8 years, Colin often performing as a solo act while Kinden and Darryl became known as the Spare Parts, often adding a rhythm section for a variety of different performers. In the summer of 2022, someone suggested that Colin should jam with the Spare Parts and one practice and a week later, the Unicorn Parts became official.
The band was founded due to a similar interest in musical stylings and personal beliefs. Colin Prentice brought great songs to the rhythm section provided by Kinden and Darryl.
The band has slowly been building a local following in the Yukon, with the release of their debut EP 'Songs to Make Friends' in 2024 and recent performance at the 2025 Atlin Arts and Music Festival. They are heading back to the Green Needle Recording studio to start working on songs for a full length LP.
